My mom and I have had several conversations throughout my life about the value of being poor.
“It builds character.”
“It makes you appreciate what you have.”
Oh hey Mom, you forgot one.
“It. Sucks.”
I’ve often said that I thought it would be good for every married couple to start out poor, so they’d learn to budget and appreciate the value of a hard-earned dollar, etc.
Of course, that was before I was married. If I’m going to have to eat my words, maybe I should stick to phrases like, “chocolate” or, “I think it would be good for every married couple to give me a million dollars.”
But don’t worry, little kiddies, this story has a happy ending. Gary started work yesterday for John Deere Landscaping, so we’re almost out of the woods.
Anybody got an axe?
